This calculator uses a simple formula to determine the score you need on your final exam. The formula is based on the fact that your current grade and your final exam grade are weighted to create your final semester grade.

The core calculation is:

Final Exam Score = (Desired Grade - (Current Grade × (1 - Final Weight))) / Final Weight

For example, if you have an 85% in a class, want a 90%, and the final is worth 25% of your grade:

Final Exam Score = (90 - (85 × (1 - 0.25))) / 0.25 = (90 - 63.75) / 0.25 = 26.25 / 0.25 = 105%

In this case, the calculator would show you that achieving a 90% is not possible, as it would require a score of 105% on the final.
